International Waffle Day!

March 25th, 2026 — Grab your whisk and preheat those irons!

Today isn’t just any Wednesday; it’s International Waffle Day! From the traditional heart-shaped treats of Scandinavia to the viral “croffle” fusions taking over social media in 2026, the humble waffle is having a major “newsy” moment.

At Country Lane Foods, we’re right at the heart of the action. With UK egg production hitting record highs this year, there’s never been a better time to celebrate with high-quality, farm-fresh ingredients.

Why March 25th?
It all started with a bit of a linguistic mix-up in Sweden!

Historically, the day marks Vårfrudagen (“Our Lady’s Day”). Because the Swedish word for “Our Lady’s Day” sounds strikingly similar to våffeldagen (“Waffle Day”), the tradition slowly shifted from a religious observance to a delicious feast of waffles.

Traditional Swedish Style:
If you want to eat like a local, traditional Swedish waffles are:

Thin and crispy (unlike the thick Belgian style).

Baked in a heart-shaped iron.

Commonly served with a dollop of whipped cream and fresh strawberry jam.

2026 Trends: The “Nostalgia Remix”
While we love the classics, 2026 is all about the “Nostalgia Remix.” We’re seeing a global surge in “fusion” waffles. Have you tried a “Dubai Chocolate” Waffle yet? (Think pistachio paste and crunchy knafeh!) Or perhaps a savoury Chorizo & Egg Waffle?

Whether you’re going sweet or savoury, the secret to that 2026 “sensory level-up” texture, crisp on the outside, light on the inside, is all in the protein of a fresh egg.

So, get cracking and make a waffle or two!
