Where Goodness is Egg-Shaped—and Bee Friendly!
At Country Lane Foods, we’ve always believed that ‘Goodness is Egg Shaped.’ But this Earth Day, we’re taking a moment to look beyond the shell. To us, true goodness starts with the health of our British countryside and the tiny, winged heroes that keep it blooming: the bees.
As a family business with over 30 years of heritage, we understand that we are caretakers of the land. Our mission has always been to balance high-quality egg production with a deep respect for nature. That’s why our The Birds and the Bees range is so close to our hearts. It’s more than just a carton of delicious free-range eggs; it’s a commitment to a buzzing, biodiverse future.
The “Un-bee-lievable” Truth About Our Food
You might wonder why an egg company is so obsessed with bees. The answer is simple: No bees, no breakfast.
It’s a startling fact that one out of every three mouthfuls of food we eat is made possible by pollinators. From the tomatoes in your fry-up to the seeds that feed our hens, bees are the engine of our food system. Without them, the variety and quality of food available to families across the UK would drastically vanish.
Why the bees need our help:
Habitat Loss: Since the 1930s, the UK has lost a staggering 97% of its wildflower meadows.
The Economy: Pollinators contribute roughly £1.8 billion annually to the UK economy by pollinating crops.
The Decline: Over 35 species of bees in the UK are currently under threat of extinction.
Making a Buzz in the Egg World
We didn’t want to just sit back and watch the meadows disappear. Our The Birds and the Bees range was created to actively fight back.
We work hand-in-hand with our dedicated UK farmers to transform our hen ranges into pollinator paradises. By planting native wildflowers, maintaining thick hedgerows, and creating “bee corridors,” we give these vital insects a safe place to forage and flourish.
When our hens wander outside, they aren’t just enjoying the fresh air—they’re sharing their home with a thriving ecosystem of bumblebees, honeybees, and butterflies.
How You Can Help This Earth Day
Sustainability is a team effort! While our farmers are busy planting wildflowers on our farms, here are three small ways you can help the bees from your own back garden:
Plant for Pollinators: Even a window box with lavender or borage can provide a vital snack for a passing bee.
Ditch the Mower: Let a patch of your lawn grow wild (the bees love dandelions!).
Choose Wisely: By purchasing The Birds and the Bees eggs, you are directly supporting farming practices that prioritise the environment.
Happy Earth Day from all of us at Country Lane!
